I've played drums off and on since I was very young. My mother says she often
found me beating on the crib rails with toy sticks - and with rhythm too.
It was the drumming of Hal Blaine and Buddy Rich that got me excited about
wanting to play some real drums. By age 8, I had my first real kit and with
lots of practice, Ron Wilson's drum solo in "Wipe Out" became my first accomplishment. I put down the sticks for a number of years until I met Will Denton. Will is a great Nashville drummer who has played for Steven Curtis Chapman, Mark Shultz, LeAnn Rimes, and Gretchen Wilson to name a few. With Will's encouragement and drum shop connections, I purchased my first "pro-level" kit and dived into the study of all things percussion. Several lessons, and music theory classes later, I got the nerve to audition for a band. I spent the next year playing for a popular gospel group, The Melody Makers, traveling around and having a blast. Since then I've had the honor to play for some great local talents such as Monika Jaymes, Johnny Orr, Coty Rivers, and now Kabin Fiva. The only thing better than listening to great music is helping make great music. I am so thankful for those who give me the privilege of keeping the beat. |
